Google to Launch a Ridesharing Service Based on Autonomous Cars

Google’s ongoing efforts to create a business based on autonomous cars have not been very successful lately, but things have the potential to change drastically in the near future. Sources indicate that Larry Page wants to adopt a different driverless car strategy that would involve scrapping the current “koala” prototypes and replacing them with cars that have actual steering wheels and pedals. This means that Google’s self-driving technology will receive an Android makeover, and more importantly, Google will have to partner up with various automakers in order to create driverless cars. We already know that in order to push out Google’s self-driving car unit from the experimental X labs, the company hired execs from Airbnb and Hyundai.

Now, Alphabet is looking to implement more drastic measures by launching a new company focused on a new plan. The business would involve a ridesharing service based on autonomous vehicles that could be launched as early as 2017. However, the success of this business will depend largely on the performance of Google’s Chrysler prototype, which went into testing about a few months ago. If Google does decide to launch its own ridesharing service, would you trust it for your regular commutes, or do you still think that classic human-driven vehicles are a safer bet?
