Google VP: “we didn’t believe rounded corners were patentable”

During an interview with Bloomberg, the Vice President of Corporate Development, David Lawee gave quite the quote which I’m sure is going to stir emotions through everyone who has read about the latest Apple vs. Samsung patent case.
Lawee states that the Mountain View-based company weren’t putting as much effort into protecting their intellectual property with patents, and wished they were more aggressive about doing so. Lawee states that “we didn’t believe rounded corners were patentable”.
If you’ve been keeping up with the court cases and U.S. sales bans across Samsung-based devices, you’ll remember that Apple put up quite the argument about ’rounded corners’. I guess everything is patentable these days. I wonder if I can patent my own name? Maybe I could throw a patent on oxygen, too?
