Google Will Take Action against Mobile Sites with Annoying Pop-Ups

Google

We all know that Google tweaks its massive search engine on a regular basis in order to improve the experience of its users, and the latest change could definitely have a meaningful positive impact for those of you who prefer to use mobile devices to stay online. The company recently revealed  two major changes, one of which involves the removal of the “mobile-friendly” label that showcased easy-to-read pages. The second modification will definitely have a bigger impact, though, as mobile pages that show intrusive interstitials when a user visits for the first time will be punished by ranking lower in the search results.

We’ve all seen this kind of pop-up before. It basically covers up the entire page, and it has a very small dismissal button that eventually causes the user to click on the ad by mistake. Those of you who own websites with decent interstitials can rest easy, as only those pages that make content less accessible will be targeted come January 10, 2017. Some sites use pop-ups for login dialogs or for various legal reasons, and those are obviously completely safe. We already know that websites using interstitials for app install ads are already being punished by Google, and this latest change is definitely a welcomed addition as well.
