GoPro Plans Hero 6 Camera Release in 2017

Following production issues with its Hero 5 camera and a recall of its Karma drones, GoPro had a terrible fourth-quarter of 2016, revealing during a recent earnings call that the company made a loss of $116 million during that period. One bit of good news revealed during said call, though, is that the company is set to release a new version of its action camera-  the Hero 6 – at some point this year, according to CEO Nick Woodman.

The following is a transcript from the earnings call (via Seeking Alpha):

Paul Coster – JPMorgan Securities LLC

All right. And the follow-up is, can you just talk to us a little bit about the product cadence moving forward. I think in the prepared remarks it sounded like this year you will have several new products coming to market. Can you confirm that and we’re not going to be on a two-year kind of timeline now between HEROs. Thank you.

Nicholas Woodman – GoPro, Inc.

Thanks, Paul, Nick here. Yes, we can confirm there will be new cameras and other accessories released during the year and new camera namely being HERO6. But we’re not going to share any information as to the timing or any other details around the release of those new products as you can imagine.

While we don’t know any details about the potential Hero 6 camera, Woodman did tease the idea of a spherical camera during CES 2017.
