Polyphony Digital CEO Kazunori Yamauchi aka founder of the Gran Turismo racing game series, has hinted that Gran Turismo 6 could be on its way soon. Yamauchi has stated that his company Polyphony Digital have been working on the Gran Turismo 6 framework since the release of Gran Turismo 5 – which was way back on November the 24th 2010.
“We’re always aiming for the latest technology and the latest expression,” he added.
If his comments on the latest technology are anything to go by then we can probably expect to see Gran Turismo 6 arrive on the next generation of Sony console, as the current PlayStation 3 not only is fading in popularity but also lacks the graphical power to take the game to the next level of realism.
Yamauchi also commented on the possiblity of bringing Gran Turismo to PlayStation Vita, stating connectivity would be the most essential design factor:
“If we were to make it, we’d like to make use of the ability to play anywhere and the ability to use 3G at any time,” he said.
Since Gran Turismo has been one of the PlayStation flagship game series since its early release, we wouldn’t be at all surprised if GT6’s launch coincided with the launch of the next gen PlayStation console. Arguably it makes more sense for Sony to do this as the dedicated following Gran Turismo has would surely tempt many into buying the new console just to play Gran Turismo 6.
