Graphics Drivers For Intel Will Now Collect Telemetry Data By Default

In an effort to improve their graphics cards, Intel’s latest graphics driver update quietly introduced a new change surrounding telemetry data collection.

Intel Telemetry Collection

As shared by TechPowerUp, Intel has introduced a “Compute Improvement Program” component into their setup options with the latest 101.4578 beta drivers enabled by default. CIP collects data on your computer with usage and performance in the background for Intel to use and improve its future products. This is something that is incredibly valuable to them and even for us if we want to keep Intel running as the third graphics card manufacturer. You can find out more about CIP at Intel.com which covers all the questions on what data and how it’s used.

How Do Other Manufacturers Handle It?

Now before you get your pitchforks out and complain about data collection, think about NVIDIA and AMD’s methods of doing this. First, the most popular choice, NVIDIA, has their Telemetry enabled by default with your graphics drivers with no option to disable it. AMD on the other hand is the same as Intel here and offers you the option to disable it with your installation. Be grateful you get the choice with AMD and Intel even though the data collected doesn’t contain sensitive information.
