No Man’s Sky from Hello Games got off to a… let’s just say “less than favourable” start in life. Personally, I did enjoy the game, it has a great atmosphere about it, but with every passing hour, it started to dawn that the whole thing felt like an endless conveyor belt of disappointment. There’s a whole lot of game world, but a huge void of meaning, purpose, or put simply “s&$t to do!”.
That seems to be well on the way to getting fixed, as the Foundation Update added a swath of new features to the game, and they’re actually rather brilliant, even if the new features do fuel the joke that the game was really an Early Access game masquerading as a retail release.
Since the update, people have been mining the data from the game to see what else is lurking in there, and it looks like they’ve discovered the early workings for ground based vehicles. A few tweaks and mods even let you view the vehicle model in game. There are references to a buggy vehicle, tires, tracks, and more in the game code too.
“Welcome to the Foundation Update. It adds the foundations of base building, and is a foundation for things to come. This is the first of many free updates.” – Hello Games
