Ridley Scott’s forthcoming new entry in the Alien franchise – and sequel to 2012’s Prometheus – is getting its own virtual reality experience, and it looks set to be a gory and visceral ride. In Utero, a kind of gruesome teaser for Alien: Covenant, puts you into the perspective of a chestburster – still embodied within its host – as it prepares to punch its way through viscera and bone:
“ALIEN: COVENANT In Utero is a 360-degree virtual reality journey into a living nightmare and offers a terrifyingly close and personal encounter as an alien neomorph at the time of its birth,” says 20th Century Fox. “Fans will be able to experience the world around them, reliving the very first memories of the neomorph in an immersive environment.”
““With the In Utero experience, audience participation is taken to a whole new level,” Scott said in a statement. “You get to be a neomorph, exploring what’s happening around you and within you.”
Alien: Covenant – starring Michael Fassbender, Katherine Waterston, Billy Crudup, Danny McBride, Demián Bichir, Carmen Ejogo, Amy Seimetz, Jussie Smollett, Callie Hernandez, Nathaniel Dean, Alexander England, and Benjamin Rigby – is set for release in cinemas on 19th May. In Utero will hit Google’s Daydream View, HTC Vive, Samsung Gear, and PlayStation VR on 10th May.
