GTA Online was hit by an exceptionally concerning issue last month as it was found a new cheating program for the title was capable of effectively allowing other players to ruin your account. – The hack would allow the person to lower your rank, remove your money, and even corrupt it to the point that you would never be able to access it again. – Put simply, it was scary stuff. And especially for those who have hundreds if not thousands of hours invested in their character.
With no official word from Rockstar Games on the subject, however, it was simply left to the community to issue an en-masse message to its players. – In a nutshell, they said do not play GTA Online until this gets fixed.
Has it been fixed though? Well, following a report via PCGamesN, Rockstar Games has just released a new update patch for GTA Online (1.66) which should, all going well, close off this rather disturbing almost admin level of access to those using this cheat engine.
The update itself is relatively straightforward. Rather than applying any new content or general bug fixes, this solely concentrates on shutting the door on this account hacking exploit. And, in fairness to Rockstar Games, at least they acted fairly promptly on this as one of the key factors in the community being so vocal on the subject was due to the developer effectively confirming last year that development on the title had come to an end so they could focus more attention on GTA 6.
Put simply, the community was scared, and quite legitimately too, that this might not have been fixed at all.
Based on the initial community feedback, however, the update has worked successfully and it should look to apply itself automatically the next time you go to load up GTA V (or GTA Online). – There will, of course, still be cheaters hanging around here and there, the good news though is that while they can still make your online life fairly miserable, they can’t ruin your character any more!
