GTA Online Updates Wont Be Available On Xbox 360 Or PS3

Grand Theft Auto is a long-standing series of games, all the way from the original top-down versions to the latest generations the game has seen success after success, but sadly everything must come to an end and the next ending seems to be the updates for GTA Online on Xbox 360 and PS3.

The announcement comes before next week’s update which will include features such as spontaneous open world events, available to anyone in the server. The reason given is a simple one, they believe they have reached the limit at which the technology on the last generation systems can handle. While not a surprise, and it has previously been mentioned as an option by Rockstar, they have also mentioned that they will continue server support for the game, meaning that you can still play GTA online on your PS3 and Xbox 360, but you will be unable to enjoy the latest fixes or features in single player.

In a previous statement on their newswire, they stated:

“As we mentioned previously, we always knew there might be a point where we would reach the technical capacity of what the older generation of consoles can handle as each downloadable update requires additional memory both for assets and for additional scripting.  We have continued to optimize the entire game over time in order to squeeze as much memory as we possibly could out of the last-generation hardware and at some point, continuing to add content for those systems could cause the risk of instability to the game overall.”

It’s had a good run, and for a game released two years ago to still be receiving updates is impressive. Do you enjoy GTA Online on 360 or PS3? If so are you thinking of changing to the latest console or the PC version of the game anytime soon?

Thank you Kotaku  and Rockstar games for the information.
