I’ll be honest, I’ve never heard of the GTA Underground Mod before, and that surprises me a little. This is quite literally one of the largest mods I’ve ever heard of, and I like mods… so how did I miss it? Anyway, we have a truly remarkable GTA San Andreas mod here that combines the world maps of GTA III, Vice City, and San Andreas. However, it goes two steps further and even includes the map for Manhunt and Bully add in there for good measure. Seriously, there are some already huge maps there, but to drive from one end to the other? Ooof!
Modder dkluin released the new version of the mod this week, bringing it up to Version 4.1.7, but also added a new installer system, support for 11 languages, and a wide range of stability and performance improvements. Furthermore, it addresses many crashes they previously had and some graphical issues that persisted in previous versions.
The mod plays basically like a massively expanded San Andreas. There’s a lot of smaller mods worked into this project, though. You can enjoy gang wars throughout the whole map. There are additional weapons and even new vehicles throughout too. Honestly, while you can still play it as a game, I find it just a big nostalgia trip, and it’s really just fun to drive around and explore the map.
While you don’t need previous versions of this mod to install it, you will need a clean install of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas to install it over. All you need to do is download the mod from here. It’s a 3.92GB file, so nothing too drastic in terms of file sizes.
“The San Andreas, Liberty City, Vice City, Manhunt I/II, Bullworth, and custom maps combined into one big map. With gang wars, shops, added (not replaced) vehicles, peds, and weapons (yes, you can modify added vehicles and buy added weapons in weapon stores) in the same style as if R* were to make an expansion for GTA: San Andreas.” – dkluin
