GTA V Outsells Fallout 76 In 2018
With the unexpected announcement of a brand new Fallout 76 game in the Summer, many would’ve easily accepted that it would’ve been one of the biggest game releases of the year. For various reasons though, when it finally landed on shelves (digital or otherwise) people (mostly) absolutely detested it.
Yes, the criticism of Fallout 76 has been pretty vocal and as such, it’s hardly any surprise to hear that sales of the game have been rather poor. In a report via PCGamesN though, a market study has found that Grand Theft Auto 5 (a 5-year-old game) managed to outsell Fallout 76 in 2018.
Bad News For Bethesda
This is, of course, both very surprising, but also exceptionally embarrassing for Bethesda. As above, it’s hardly surprising that the game may not have topped the sales charts since it’s release, to be beaten by such an old game though (one that you would’ve assumed everyone had bought by this point) is clearly pretty grim.
We do know that Fallout 76 sold around 400,000 copies on the PS4, so if we assume figures for the PC and Xbox One, is less than a million total sales out of the ballpark? I don’t think so. Not the kind of figures a AAA company like Bethesda needs!
Take The Figures With A Pinch Of Salt
Since Bethesda (and many other companies) do not generally tend to reveal exact sales numbers (unless they’re surprisingly good) you do have to take this research with a pinch of salt. On the whole though, as crazy as it sounds, it sounds pretty accurate to me.
