Since being announced concurrently with its bigger, more popular brother, the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 isn’t getting a lot of love at the moment. A series of leaked benchmarks, though, might turn some heads.
The benchmark graphs – published then pulled by French website Clubic, but not before NeoGAF user DieH@rd managed to save a copy of them – show that the GTX 1070 outperforms both the former favourite GTX Titan X and the GTX 980Ti, and is faster than the AMD Radeon Fury X running everything but Ashes of the Singularity.
When the GeForce GTX 1070 was revealed – alongside the more powerful GTX 1080 – by NVIDIA CEO Jen-Hsun Huang, it was given rather short shrift. Huang lavished praise on the GTX 1080. “It’s insane. The 1080 is insane, It’s almost irresponsible amounts of performance,” Jen-Hsun gushed. “This is the future of graphics, available today. 1080 is the new king.”
“Several thousand people have been working on this project now for more than two years,” he added. “This is the largest GPU endeavor, the largest chip processor endeavor, in the history of humanity. The R&D budget was several billion dollars.”
Even the NVIDIA blog barely acknowledged the 1070. “Waiting until the end of his presentation, [Jen-Hsun] also announced that we’re launching the NVIDIA GTX 1070 as well,” the blog reads at the end.
Poor GTX 1070. It needs a hug.
