GTX 1080 Fan Revving to be Fixed in Upcoming Driver

The GTX 1080 founder’s edition cards retail at a significantly higher price point than many AIB versions which still seems a rather puzzling decision. This is because custom models usually feature better power delivery, enhanced overclocking headroom and a quieter fan curve. Nevertheless, NVIDIA felt many enthusiasts would pay the premium for the attractive design and new vapor cooling solution. Given this focus on providing a premium experience, you wouldn’t expect to see any mishaps. Sadly, this isn’t the case as many users have encountered a bizarre fan revving problem. The GPU’s fan suddenly ramps up from 2000RPM to 3000RPM for no apparent reason. This isn’t due to increasing thermal loads which left me a little mystified. According to  PCGamesHardware, NVIDIA has acknowledged this problem and going to release a fix in the next driver release:

Update 6/1/16 – We are testing a driver fix to address the random spin up/down fan issue.
Update 6/2/16 – Driver fix so far has passed internal testing. Fix will be part of our next driver release.

This is great news for early adopters of the GTX 1080 founders edition and hopefully, this should produce a more enjoyable user-experience. Please remember, to keep an eye out for news of this particular driver or check the GeForce Experience software on a regular basis.
