If you haven’t had to a chance to check out any of the latest GTX 660 and GTX 650 news then please use the tags at the bottom of the article to catch up. We aren’t going to recap specifications here, just show you some early leaked performance numbers – produced by Nvidia’s press department so as always take them with a huge pinch of salt.
First up is the GTX 660, which according to Nvidia’s marketing performance slide is on average about 20-230% faster than AMD’s HD 7850. Given AMD’s HD 7850 costs about $219 and this card will cost about $229 the GTX 660 seems to have a slightly better price to performance ratio.
Looking at pure Nvidia generational improvements, the GTX 660 is about 60% faster than the GTX 460 and about 40% faster than the GTX 560 – impressive stuff.
This next comparison angers me slightly. The GTX 650 will cost $40 more than the HD 7750, $149 vs $109, so the GTX 650 is 36% more expensive than the HD 7750. Yet Nvidia has implemented its trademark unfair comparison showing the GTX 650 is 15-25% faster than the much cheaper HD 7750. The HD 7770 would of been a identical price-to-price comparison and I think they should of done that.
Comparing the GTX 650 against the GTS 450 you can see the generational performance improvements at Nvidia’s low end are nowhere near as good as with the GTX 660. This is mainly due to naming and rebranding discrepancies that have occurred over the past few generations. However, performance per watt of the GTX 650 will be amazing compared to the GTS 450 so watch out for that.
