GTX 660 release day is here

Today Nvidia has announced its newest graphics card to add to the GTX 600 series. The Nvidia GTX 660 has 2GB of VRAM, 960 CUDA cores, 80 TMUs, and 24 ROPs. Like the GTX 660Ti it features a 192bit memory interface although it differs quite dramatically by having a GK106 GPU instead of a cut down GK104 – this also adds to the GTX 660 having superior power efficiency by not having a much larger GPU core than is necessary with parts disabled.

The GTX 660 is 2 way SLI capable and takes just a single 6 pin PCI express power connector, although expect to see Nvidia partners add 8 pins or dual 6 pins so you can get stronger overclocks out of the GTX 660 GPU. Reference clock speeds are 980MHz on the core with a 1033MHz GPU boost speed depending on the power configurations.

The GTX 660 will support PCI Express 3.0 and Direct X 11.1 whilst you can expect the pricing to start from about $229/£179 according to Nvidia’s pricing recommendation.
