Half-Life protest on Steam didn’t go as planned

A group of over 50,000 people was formed to protest against Valve for not revealing more information on the future of the Half-Life series.  I find it amusing that they did this protest in the form of “playing the game” on Steam, a great way to show the game still has it’s fan base, but maybe a petition would have had more clout, especially since only around 10,000 fan actually logged on to play Half-Life 2 over the weekend.

The idea being that if they drew enough attention they could coax Valve into revealing more information on either Episode 3 or Half-Life 3.

The protest group’s description states, “The lack of communication between Valve and the Half-Life community has been a frustrating experience. While continued support for current and future products is greatly appreciated, fans of the Half-Life series have waited years for a word on when the franchise will return.”

Unfortunate then that communication wasn’t as robust between the group, with only a 20% turn out for the protest.  With a lower turnout Valve may not feel as compelled to make any announcements, but we can hope at the very least they raised a couple of eyebrows at the Dev’s headquarters, with their initial effort of gathering 50,000 fans in the first place for their group.

Only time will tell what the future holds for Half-Life, but as Valve have already shown in the past, they are not in any kind of hurry.
