Microsoft‘s latest Xbox One X console was introduced at E3 2017 to much fanfare. The new console boasts better hardware than its PlayStation rival and touts “true 4K” capability, exciting many longtime fans. Microsoft also went on to show a slew of games for the new console, but noticeably missing is one title that has been there since the beginning: Halo. Although fans are not going to get a new Halo for the Xbox One X yet, they will be glad to hear that 343 industries has something to tide them over. They announced on Thursday that Halo 5 Guardians will finally receive a 4K update which will be available this year.
Although 343 studios is mum on the details, they promise to reveal more as the release date approaches. One question on many gamers’ mind however, is if it is going to be a 60FPS 4K gameplay. Framerate is very important for a competitive shooting game like Halo 5 Guardians. Developers 343 studios themselves prioritized framerates over resolution when Halo 5 came out, so it is most likely that dynamic resolution scaling will be in use.
Halo Backwards Compatibility
Longtime fans have even more reason to celebrate. Developer 343 studios also announced that backwards compatibility is coming to Xbox One. This includes Halo 3, Halo 3: ODST, Halo 4, and Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary. Each will include campaign and multiplayer, with LAN play support. Cross Lan play between Xbox One and Xbox 360 will also be available. The good news does not end there. Once these previous titles are in the program, every Xbox 360 Halo add-on map pack in the Xbox Store will be available for free.
