Halo Online Becomes Halo Cancelled

Remember the Free to Play Halo game that launched on PC in 2015? Many of you may have actually heard of it, but few in Western markets ever got to play it due to its release in Russian markets. Powered by a reworked Halo 3 engine, the game was actually a lot of fun, if you could get access to it using some unofficial mods, but now it seems no one will be able to play it as Microsoft has pulled the plug on the project.

The game never actually released, but was more in a restricted beta mode for its lifespan, but with more than six months since an update, the team has stopped working on the game and the doors are set to close. This is no doubt because the game existed prior to Microsoft shifting focus to multi-format releases between Xbox One and PC, and with Halo 5: Forge launching next month on Windows, there are bigger and better things on the horizon.

You can still access the Halo Online world using ElDewrito, but with no official support, it’s uncertain how long that will stay up too. For now, it’s best to put your hopes in Halo 5: Forge doing for PC based Halo what Forza: Apex has done for Forza on Windows.
