News about a mod for the first Halo PC game has been going around for about a year now, and it looks like the team behind this outstanding overhaul has just released a fresh version of it. In comes Halo Custom Edition SPV3, which makes the first Halo game for PC look and perform better than ever. The project comprises brand new vehicles, weapons, enemies, levels, and explorable areas. There are also easter eggs and skulls that enhance and add variety to the gameplay.
Another interesting fact about SPV3 is that it interpolates the framerate for the game’s physics. This means that all animations feel incredibly smooth now. Initially, Halo CE was designed to run at 60FPS, which sounds good enough. However, physics were capped at 30FPS, and this resulted in a rather strange gameplay experience at times. The mod doesn’t actually modify the physics FPS, but it does add a certain smoothness to the effects.
You’ll need 2.1GB of available disk space in order to install Halo Custom Edition SPV3, all thanks to a new installer that contains the mod and the original game. You can download and run the installer right now, provided you have a valid CD key for Halo Combat Evolved handy. You can get support and more over on the official subreddit here too.
