Harrison Ford Originally Wanted Han Solo to be Killed Off

Star Wars: The Force Awakens is tantalizingly close and only 49 days until it’s finally seen by record audiences across the world. As a huge fan of the original trilogy, I’m intrigued by the complete lack of information regarding the main story. This means, the plot is a complete mystery and has the potential to blow people away! While Luke Skywalker is the main protagonist, many feel more connected to Han Solo. One could argue, Harrison Ford’s career progressed much faster than Mark Hamill thanks to Star Wars.
In an interview on the Jimmy Kimmel show, Harrison Ford discussed his desire to make the writers kill off Han Solo:
“I asked him to ask the writers to kill me off, because I thought that it would be good that the character who appeared to have not so much of a complex interweaving with the theme of the Force and all that good stuff…”
“I thought it would be good that the character, if he sacrificed himself in some noble way.”
This is an interesting piece of information and makes me ponder about the series continuing without Han Solo. If he was killed off in Episode 4, or 5, it would have been such a major shock. In my opinion, I feel George Lucas and the writing staff made the correct decision. Perhaps, they wanted to focus on Han’s relationship with Leia instead.
