Harry Potter Fan Fiction Written by Bots is Hilariously Awful

How do you think you would do at writing some Harry Potter fan fiction? Prequel? Sequel? The bottom line is, whatever you did, it would likely be better than the abomination produced by a company’s AI bots.

Botnik studios programmed 2 predicting keyboards. One designed to handle narration the other dialogue. Inputting all of the Harry Potter books into the bot they asked it to create a whole new chapter or original writing.

While it was certainly new, J K Rowling has nothing to worry about anytime soon.

In a report via CNET, Botnik CEO Jamie Brew said: “Our web keyboard app analyzes text files and offers the most common word sequences as suggestions to the human user, to help them write in the style of the source material. Then a bunch of writers in the Botnik community got together in an online chat room and pitched lines they wrote using the keyboard. Our editorial team cobbled these fragments together into the full chapter we posted today.”

It’s almost as bad as watching Harry Potter while driving.

“Harry Potter and the Portrait of What Looked Like a Large Pile of Ash”

The fact that things were not going entirely to plan was evident when it suggested the book title – “Harry Potter and the Portrait of What Looked Like a Large Pile of Ash”. Not exactly snappy is it?

So, what plot twists did the bot throw up?

Well, while wearing his ‘Ron Shirt’, Ron Weasley “immediately began to eat Hermione’s family,” declaring that he “was going to be spiders. He just was.”

Without spoiling too much, the book ends with our titular character falling down stairs “for the rest of the summer”. Presumably because at some unknown point prior, he had lost his glasses.

While the writing is clearly bad, it has inspired some to create art on it. Including a depiction of the Hufflepuffs pig. Another creation of the bots. At this point, I daresay that despite the terrible writing (the bots, not mine) you are intrigued.
