I’d be very surprised if you hadn’t heard of toy maker Hasbro. What you may not have known, however, is that the company recently launched an arm called HasLab. In this, they wish to open up the floodgates to what fans really want. All fans need to do is register their interest.
One of the first projects to be given this treatment is Star Wars Jabba the Hutt’s Barge. Hasbro has promised that if they receive 5,000 preorders they will create the toy.
Initially, one might think that HasLab is some form of crowdfunding. That, however, is not strictly true. Hasbro basically want to ascertain market interest, if it’s there and enough preorder they’ll make it, if not, they’ll move onto another project.
It, therefore, gives fans of anything and everything the opportunity to submit an idea to Hasbro and if popular, Hasbro will create it.
So, what do we know about Jabba the Hutts Barge? Well, it will be around 4′ long, yes, that big. It will include folding size panels so fans can create their own scene and of course, it comes complete with a 3 3/4 inch Jabba the Hutt figurine.
Put simply, this is being marketing as an ultimate Star Wars fan toy/model.
As a fan of Star Wars, I love the concept, but what really blows me away is the size.
You can check out the official website here if you want to place your own pre-order, however, please note that for a model of such size, it isn’t coming cheap. $499.99 to be exact. That being said though, for a 4′ scale model, that actually isn’t that bad.
What do you think? Interested in this model? What about the price? Think it’s about right? – Let us know in the comments!
