Even though some of you might not remember Hawken, it really wasn’t that bad of a game. The title was developed by Adhesive Games/Reloaded Games, and it was launched for Windows in 2012. Four years later in July, it was released for Xbox One and PlayStation 4. Now, its Steam servers are being shut down. Hawken followed a free-to-play model, and it allowed players to shoot each other up from behind the cockpits of mechs. The maps depicted the battlefield of a dystopian world, and the concept itself was quite intriguing, at least at first.
Apparently, the development team wants to focus its efforts on other projects. The game’s DLC will be removed from Steam today, while the title itself will disappear on January 2nd.
“After 3 great years, we are shutting down the PC Steam servers to refocus our development efforts. The PC game will officially be removed on January 2, 2018, and all DLC and purchasable content will also be unavailable starting today.”
Maybe Hawken was not the greatest game in the world, but I did have some fun playing it. Even though they have little in common, this title reminds me of Evolve a bit, as that game was also hyped up upon release only to die off slowly in the coming months. From what I can gather, the console versions of Hawken will remain untouched after January 2nd, so you can still pilot your mech if you want to, just not on PC.
