Headphones Maker Beats Sued by Bose

There is a new front in the never ending patent war, this time it is the sound system and headphone maker Bose that is suing Beats for infringing on their patents for noise-cancelling technologies. This isn’t the first time Bose defends those patents. Last year it sued Able Planet on noise-cancelling technology that apparently got settled outside of court. Then again in April, Bose sued Monster for a range of Headphones infringing on Boses patents.

Bose seeks an unspecified damage demand from Beats, that as we all know recently was swept up by Apple. Beats was originally founded by the rapper Dr. Dre and producer Jimmy Iovine in 2006 and quickly became a popular brand for music fans and hipsters alike.

On Friday Bose filed the lawsuit in the federal court in Delaware where they say Beats wilfully infringed upon five patents in their Studio and Studio Wireless line of products that in return has hurt Bose in sales and profits.

Bose specifically alleges that Beats infringed on these  five US patents: patent 6,717,537, titled “Method and Apparatus for Minimizing Latency in Digital Signal Processing Systems;” patent 8,073,150, a “Dynamically Configurable ANR Signal Processing Topology;” patent 8,073,151, a “Dynamically Configurable ANR Filter Block Technology;” patent 8,054,992, which specifies a method for high frequency compensating; and patent 8,345,888, which covers “Digital High Frequency Phase Compensation.”

Bose commented with the default statement “We are committed to protecting our investment, protecting our customers, and defending the patents we own”  where as Beats declined to comment to Reuters.

Additional to the lawsuit Bose also filed a complaint with the International Trade Commission seeking to prevent import of the infringing product lines to the United States.

Thank you Reuters for providing us with this information.
