Helldivers 2 Dev Johan Pilestedt Announces Sabbatical Ahead of Arrowhead’s Next Project

Johan Pilestedt, the game director of Helldivers 2, has announced he will take a sabbatical to recharge before diving into the studio’s next project. Pilestedt shared the news on X, a platform where he is actively engaged with the community. He revealed that he has been working continuously on the series for nearly twelve years, sacrificing time he wished to spend with family and friends.

A Well-Deserved Break After Years of Dedication

In his message, Pilestedt explained, “I am gonna do a sabbatical for a while! I know a lot of you are going to think “por qué?” – well, while you have enjoyed @helldivers2 for almost a year, I have been living it since early 2016, and with @HelldiversGame – its since 2013. 11 years of working “around the clock” on the same IP has made me set aside family, friends and my lovely wife… and myself. I am going to take some time now to redeem what was lost from all of those that supported me for over a decade. When I’m back – I will start working on the next Arrowhead game.”

What’s Next for Arrowhead Game Studios?

Pilestedt did not share any details about Arrowhead Game Studios’ upcoming project. Previously, he mentioned that the team had been developing Helldivers 3 by expanding and enhancing the formula of the second installment through post-launch updates. Earlier this month, he stated that he was gathering ideas for the concept of the next game, which could potentially be unrelated to the Helldivers series. Fans will have to wait to see what’s in store.
