James Bond is a fantastic agent, but he’s not exactly the ideal car owner, especially given his line of work. The newest Bond film is called SPECTRE, and in order to celebrate its world premiere, renowned car insurance company Privilege has decided to reveal how much it would charge James Bond for an insurance on his Aston Martin. However, the company then decided that it would not offer its services to Bond after all, and the reasons behind this decision actually make sense. First of all, the high-speed chases that Bond frequently engages in dramatically increase the likelihood of getting in an accident, not to mention the fact that the agent’s driving history is filled with numerous car crashes. Moreover, his cars often receive special equipment such as machine guns or ejector seats, which means that the insurance company would have a hard time finding a suitable replacement to offer while the vehicle undergoes repairs.
Bond’s drinking habits were also taken into consideration, as was the fact that he would not be able to provide his real name or a suitable address for the insurance policy. The senior motor underwriting manager at Privilege, Rob Widdowfield, concluded with the following statement:
“High-speed car chases are an essential ingredient for any Bond film. However, they are our worst nightmare. I’m afraid we would have to politely decline Mr Bond’s application for insurance and suggest that he find cover with a more specialist provider.”
To be honest, I don’t think any “specialist provider” would be willing to insure Bond’s Aston Martins, but maybe that’s just me.
