World of Warcraft is still one of the most popular MMORPGs out there, but the game has actually dropped in popularity with its Mists of Pandaria and Warlords of Draenor expansions. WoD, in particular, had very poor post-launch content, which caused the game’s subscriber list to drop sharply. However, Blizzard has a good chance to bring WoW back to its former glory with the newest Legion expansion, and judging by the sales figures on launch day, it looks like they are close to fulfilling this goal. Legion sold out 3.3 million copies on the first day, which makes it one of the fastest-selling PC games in history.
However, keeping these new and returning players invested is the real trick, and Blizzard is trying to get on top of things with the upcoming Patch 7.1: Return to Karazhan. Unveiled not too long ago at PAX West, this patch will allow players to venture into Karazhan once more in the form of a five-player dungeon. The patch also offers new quests for the city of Suramar, as well as a new raid named Trial of Valor. CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment, Mike Morhaime, had a few words to say about the World of Warcraft: Legion expansion.
“It’s been a thrill to see players hunting demons, powering up Artifacts, and freely exploring all the new zones in Legion. We worked hard to make this the best World of Warcraft expansion yet, and we look forward to providing players with even more content as Legion’s epic story unfolds in the months ahead.”
