Here’s My New Favourite Travel Gadgets for 2023

The year was 2019, and I was coming back from a long trip to Las Vegas where we attended the Consumer Electronic Show, better known as CES. It was a great trip, I had managed to go the whole time without smoking (having recently quit at the time) and side note, still don’t smoke, whoop! I managed to hit all my meetings and some great parties, saw hundreds of friends, got a free upgrade to Upper Class on the flight, and even got my face in the Daily Mail news rag courtesy of the airport paparazzi… albeit, I wasn’t exactly the focus of the shot… It was all great fun, but there was one thing I didn’t know at that time. I didn’t know it would be my last international trip for almost four years.

Covid hit, trips to Germany, Taiwan, Vegas, and more were soon cancelled and it seemed like they were never going to return for me. Alas, here I am, tickets booked for Taiwan, ready to hit the other side of the world for Computex 2023! That means I need a few new gadgets to get me there, keep me entertained and provide some quality of life improvements.

So what’s already in my bag?

Well, my laptop, these change from time to time based on what I’m reviewing, but I have my own slim ASUS Ultrabook too. I also have my Samsung S22 Ultra, and a set of wireless headphones. These are pretty much the staple of my travelling gear, it’s pretty much all I need… Sort of.

One thing that has vanished from my line-up is a tablet, I used to travel with my Nvidia Shield Tablet, but it’s pretty old now, and my phone does gaming well, and modern laptops can easily last a long journey of watching movies, so having that mid-size device just feels like an unnecessary step to me these days. I may be singing a different tune if a top-end tablet wasn’t £1000+ these days, ouch.

As a child still in my 30's (but not for long), I spend my day combining my love of music and movies with a life-long passion for gaming, from arcade classics and retro consoles to the latest high-end PC and console games. So it's no wonder I write about tech and test the latest hardware while I enjoy my hobbies!
