Hex Gear R40 Micro-ATX Chassis Review

Complete System

I won’t lie to you, it took an awfully long time to build this chassis, just over four hours actually! Hex Gear say you can do it in a little over an hour, but they don’t factor in reviewing it at the same time, so obviously it was going to take me longer. However, once built, it took me a mere twenty minutes to fit my system inside it and I’m very happy to say, it’s an incredibly easy chassis to work with.

There’s a huge amount of space in here that even our Dark Power Pro 11 PSU, as well as our large Sapphire R9 270X graphics cards fit with zero issues and plenty of room to spare. Of course, some of you may remember me mentioning that this is a reverse build, so lets flip it the right way around and see the finished product.

The 240mm radiator fit snug in the bottom of the chassis, with two fans on the bottom to help pull air up and through the chassis; There’s certainly no issue with airflow thanks to those large hexagonal cutouts!

Cable management is spectacularly tidy and I had no issues finding space to route any of the cables required.

Behind the motherboard you can see we have our SSD mounted on the hard drive bracket, as well as some rather tidy cable management.

Of course, the cable management looks even better with the extra cover in place, completing this side of the build.

Two fans in the base of the chassis for our 240mm radiator, as well as the PSU near the front. There’s a couple of routing cutouts near the back to run a cable through to the PSU; Hex Gear include a 90-degree adaptor for the PSU power cable to help ease the connection to the back of the PSU.

Side panel window in place, giving us a fantastic view of the system interior.

Certainly a great chassis for showing off your hardware.

The front panel insert looks incredible, especially in that lovely eTeknix blue.

You can also see I’ve now installed the power button at the top of the chassis. The right side panel is also in place, completing the build.
