The famous overclocker Hi Cookie has managed to achieve a fantastic overclock on the Bulldozer. He managed to take the FX-8150 chip, which is an eight core part clocked at 3.6GHz, to a staggering 8GHz using LN2 a.k.a. Liquid Nitrogen cooling. The CPU was cooled to -192 degrees celsius in order to achieve the overclock. The board used was Gigabyte’s 990FXA-UD7 motherboard paired with a 2GB stick of 1866MHz ADATA RAM and an 8400GS video card. This is a very good result considering Hi Cookie used a standard FX-8150 processor not a cherry picked module. The processor required a large voltage increase all the way to 2V in order to achieve the overclock. Expect many more stories of Bulldozer overclocking to come in the next few days as enthusiasts manage to get there hands on the new processors.
Anyone with a Gigabyte 990FX UD7/UD5/UD3 should make sure that they update their BIOS for the release of the Bulldozer processors to ensure maximum compatibility and performance with the new CPUs especially those enthusiasts looking to overclock.
