Hidden Coin Found in Donkey Kong 64 After 17 Years

Donkey Kong 64 speedrunner Isotarge was in for a surprise during his last playthrough with the N64 game launched back in 1999. Just when he thought he knew every single detail about a game that’s been played for close to two decades then suddenly, something new is discovered: the 977th coin in game which is the 16th rainbow coin. A rainbow coin is worth five regular coins of each color. Surprisingly, it was not located in some extremely obscure location and Isotarge did not even go out of his way from his normal playthrough to find it. Specifically, it is located in the Fungi Forest, through the blue tunnel by tag barrel near the mill according to Isotarge himself. Isotarge currently holds the 3rd place spot Donkey Kong 64 speedrunning in the world in the Any% All Keys category and 6th in the Any%.
The coin was found while using a program used to hunt down glitches in the game. This rare in-game collectable was hidden for so long because it is covered by a dirt pile in some tall grass (or a facsimile of them in virtual 64 world). It requires that the user unleash a shockwave attack (by holding down B) in order for the coin to show up. Since this collectable was found “in-bound” and not through outside map glitches that were holdover from development, the All Collectable speedrun leaderboard of Donkey Kong 64 must be revised to include the new coin and all previous speedruns will be technically disqualified.
