Earlier this week, the rumour mill of Sony potentially taking over Kojima Productions went into overdrive when eagle-eyed people spotted that the latest banner for the ‘PlayStation Studios’ website contained an image from Death Stranding. – Now, admittedly, we always thought that this was a someone tenuous piece of evidence, but at the same time, it was hard to not get excited about Hideo Kojima potentially reuniting with the platform that allowed him to grow in the first place.
Following an official Twitter post by the man himself, however, we now have categorical confirmation that not only is such an acquisition not happening, but in so far as things stand right now, Hideo Kojima plans to keep Kojima Productions independent forever!
Hideo Kojima Confirms No Sony Kojima Productions Takeover is Happening
Based on his comments, it seems that Hideo Kojima was aware that the Death Stranding image was utilised within the new ‘PlayStation Studios’ website banner. What he clearly did not expect though was that people would possibly read far more into it than was intended. – Put simply though, as you can see for yourself below, Kojima Productions is stating 100% independent. And in the grand scheme of things, that’s probably not a bad thing!
I’m sorry for the misunderstanding, but KOJIMA PRODUCTIONS has been and will continue to be an independent studio. https://t.co/2M0n4ogRaa

What Do We Think?
It’s no secret that one of the main reasons for Hideo Kojima’s acrimonious departure from Konami was due to a conflict in vision. And, let’s be honest, when it comes to ideas within video games, Hideo Kojima is certainly a unique guy. You only have to play Death Stranding to know that! – With his gaming studio remaining independent, however, for better or worse, this does at least allow him to retain full control to make the titles he wants to make. And, more so, to his own timeframe with no ‘deadlines’ potentially forcing something out the door before it’s ready.
Admittedly though, I was kind of hoping that this was true. Largely because with Sony getting Hideo Kojima back on board, it might’ve been a precursor to them also making a huge move for Konami’s mostly disused/seemingly abandoned gaming IPs.
What do you think though? – Let us know in the comments!
