I’ll admit that when I saw the trailers for Death Stranding for the first time, I immediately thought that this was going to be a horror game. Surely there’s nothing wrong with that, but it seems that Hideo Kojima’s upcoming open-world action game will not be so scary after all. The news was revealed by the man himself during an interview not too long ago, in which he talked about the new studio and its upcoming plans. His exact words were the following:
“I don’t have a dark mindset in particular. Death Stranding is not a horror game. I just wanted to make something that looks very unique, something you haven’t seen before, something with a more artistic slant to it. I’m not pursuing a dark aspect to the game.”
Moreover, it looks like Death Stranding will also include its fair dose of humor, which reminds me of Kojima’s Metal Gear games. Apparently, he believes that humor is a very important part of all titles, especially when it comes to large ones that need many hours to complete.
“Humor is a very important aspect for games. You play a game for a very long time – Death Stranding is a big game, too – and you put stress on the player and you lead them through peaks and valleys. Humor is an important aspect to make sure the player can enjoy playing across these peaks and valleys. So we’ll have humor in this game too, but to a degree that it doesn’t ruin the world setting. It will be at an appropriate level.”
We don’t really know much about Kojima’s new project right now, but we do know that it will feature renowned actors such as Mads Mikkelsen and Norman Reedus. A release date has yet to be confirmed at the time of writing, but we’ll definitely keep you posted.
