HighPoint Announces RocketStor 6628 with Thunderbolt 3
Bohs Hansen / 7 years ago
HighPoint had a lot of success with their first generation Thunderbolt 3 enclosures, and now the company is back with the second generation. The two new devices are the RocketStor 6628A and the RocketStor 6628T which feature improved hardware and a refined enclosure. At the same time, the new solutions are some of the most affordable in the market.
HighPoint RocketStor 6628
HighPoint’s RocketStore 6628 family come with dual Thunderbolt 3 connectors. With them, the RAID enclosures have the possibility for exceptional performance.
Thunderbolt offers 40Gbps bandwidth, and it allows the RocketStor 6628 has to deliver 2700MB/s. With its eight drive bays, the enclosure easily holds 80TB raw capacity. Further, with the recent increase in 12TB drives such as the ones from WD, you can get close to 100TB out of it.
Streamlined RAID Management
Each RocketStor 6628 RAID enclosure includes a newly redesigned and easy-to-use Web-based management utility. The built-in Array Configuration Wizard allows users of any experience level to create any RAID array in three easy steps. That is a trend that we see a lot in the storage industry, where setting up advanced configurations can be done by anyone.
Those who wish more control can take advantage of the optional Advanced Management Features which allow customers to fine tune RAID arrays for specific projects. It includes options to specify block size, enable DV Mode for digital media projects, designate spare disks for recovery, and schedule routine automated maintenance sessions with Email notification.
Enhanced Storage Cooling Solution
One of the areas where HighPoint put extra effort into making it perfect for this 2nd generation is the cooling. Prolonged and sustained high-I/O session make HDDs create a lot of heat. To dissipate the heat, the RocketStor 6628 comes with two smart-fans. The two built-in fans will adjust their speed based on temperature readings, thus providing a silent operation as well as the cooling that’s needed when it’s needed. There are both LED and audible alarms in case that your attention is needed in some way.
