HIS presents another IceQ graphics card with the HD 6870

HIS is releasing today their latest addition in their performance segment of graphics card with the HD6870 IceQ 1GB.

Using HIS’s own IceQ cooler we’re seeing on the graphics cards under the same name, this cooler uses a large heatsink with four exposed copper heat-pipes and ventilated by a fan entitled “Black Hole Impeller” by HIS which draws air from both sides of the card, obverse and reverse, and channel it through the fins of the heatsink until being pushed out of the case.

According to HIS, compared to the reference cooler, a drop in temperature to 24°C and a drop in noise level of 10dB were gained.

Underneath the cooler, the HD6870 stays the same, core clock speeds of 900MHz, memory at 1050MHz and 1GB of GDDR5 memory over a 256-bit wide interface. Packing 1120 VLIW5 and DirectX 11 support, the HD6870 draws power from two 6-pin power connectors.

For connectivity you get two DVI, one HDMI 1.4 and two mini-DisplayPort 1.2. Included is a single CrossFire connector for two way connection with any other card from the HD6800 series.

Most probably, this card was thought to be overclocked by the users without changing the cooler, but as we have seen, the previous version didn’t offer as much of a performance boost as what was expected, so we hope that HIS slightly improved their design for better cooling performances.

No price was announced, although you can expect a little extra compared to the reference for this special cooler.
