In a surprising move for gamers, Horizon Zero Dawn has been removed from the Epic Games Store. This delisting occurred just weeks before the highly anticipated remastered version of the game is set to release. While this might frustrate some players, the decision comes as part of Sony’s strategy to promote the upcoming Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered, launching on October 31st for both PC and PlayStation 5.
The original Horizon Zero Dawn, released for PC in 2020, had fluctuating prices on Epic Games, often dropping below $15 during sales. However, the game was recently retailing for $49.99, the same price as the upcoming remastered version. Sony’s decision seems to be aimed at preventing customers from paying for both the original and the $10 upgrade to the remaster, which would cost more than purchasing the remaster outright. This move has sparked discussion among fans who were hoping to grab the original at a discount before the remaster launch.
The remastered version of Horizon Zero Dawn promises significant upgrades, including improved graphics, motion capture, and other technical improvements to enhance the gaming experience. Guerrilla Games’ studio director Jan-Bart van Been commented on the remaster’s importance, saying, “We really wished that new players who join Aloy on her origin story can do it with a version that is worthy of their PS5 or compatible PC.”
The upcoming release is expected to generate excitement, especially among those eager to see Aloy’s story in the best possible light. However, some long-time fans remain skeptical about the need for the remaster, given the success of the original game.
