As the launch of NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 50 Series GPUs draws near, the race to secure one of these cutting-edge cards is officially on. With demand expected to far outstrip supply, UK-based retailer Scan Computers is hosting the only official UK launch event, offering gamers a rare chance to grab an RTX 50 Series GPU on Day 1, but don’t expect it to be easy—competition will be fierce, and preparation is essential.
Essential Tips to Beat the Rush
Shelley Raja, founder of Scan Computers, has shared some vital advice for those looking to secure an RTX 50 Series GPU. Speaking via social media, Raja stressed the importance of being prepared before launch day.
“If you haven’t done or bought from us before, just buy something off us online and be sure to save your credit card details,” Raja explained. Creating an account and pre-saving payment information will streamline your checkout process, giving you an edge when the GPUs go live. He mentioned that while you’re busy entering your credit card information, someone will be ahead of you, and will likely snap it up while you’re still searching for the last 3 digits on the back of your card. Time really is of the essence, and could make a big difference in getting that shiny new RTX 5080 or 5090 GPU.
Raja also addressed concerns about scalping, a major issue in previous launches, assuring customers that Scan has implemented stringent anti-bot measures. “Scalpers: Please don’t. The bots and stuff have got no chance, we’re all over it this time,” he warned. Fraudulent attempts will result in permanent bans, ensuring fairer access for genuine buyers.
Shelley also went on to say:
Even I can’t even take from my own stock
like most of you i’ll be buying a ‘kin 90 and an 80 off my own bloody website, and have it delivered to me 1.9 miles away the next day
This is something I’ve had close contact with Shelley personally on myself with in terms of previous launches where they’ve blocked orders, banned people from ordering and limited quantities of what’s even available.
The Launch Event You Can’t Miss
Scan Computers has also confirmed it will host an exclusive in-store launch event at its Bolton headquarters on January 30, 2025. The retailer’s official announcement reads:

This promises to be a standout event for PC enthusiasts. The GPUs That Are Redefining Gaming
The GeForce RTX 50 Series, featuring the RTX 5080 and 5090, is NVIDIA’s most advanced lineup yet. Built on the revolutionary Blackwell architecture, these GPUs promise unprecedented AI performance, cutting-edge ray tracing, and improved efficiency. At £979 GBP ($999 USD), the RTX 5080 offers gamers a significant performance boost at a far more accessible price than the RTX 5090’s £1939 GBP ($1,999 USD).

With supply chain constraints and massive demand, these GPUs are expected to sell out quickly. Scan Computers has confirmed that launch day sales will be limited to one card per customer, ensuring a fairer distribution of stock. Pre-order models for both the RTX 5080 and 5090 will also be available exclusively in-store during the event.

Don’t Miss Out – Be Prepared
For those unable to attend the event, Raja’s advice on preparation remains crucial. Create an account, save your payment details, and monitor Scan’s website closely to improve your chances of securing a card. With other retailers likely to face the same stock shortages, Scan’s in-store launch event may be the best opportunity for UK gamers to grab an RTX 50 Series GPU.
This launch marks a pivotal moment in PC gaming, with NVIDIA’s Blackwell architecture poised to set new standards for performance. Whether you’re queuing at Scan’s headquarters or refreshing your browser at home, make sure you’re ready—these GPUs are bound to be the hottest tech of 2025.
