HP @ Computex 2023

Portable storage may be hard to be overly excited about sometimes, but honestly, we would be pretty stuck without it here at eTeknix. When we’re at events or even if we’re in the office, we use extensive amounts of portable drives for our laptops, cameras, audio recording, and benchmarking systems. So having something small, powerful, and reliable, is extremely important. With that in mind, the new series of portable drives from HP really got our attention.
They range from the small Portable SSD P500, which looks great, but our favourite is the mid-size HP Portable SSD P900 series, which comes in black, silver, pink, green and grey. Sure, a bit of style is nice and you can pick a colour you love, but for us, we could keep red for video, green for audio, silver for backups, etc, making it easy to identify the drives we need at any given time.
It comes in 512GB, 1TB and 2TB sizes, yet still comes in a size that’s more compact than the ones we typically use here at eTeknix, making them travel-friendly. Furthermore, many of the drives we use are limited to 1000MB/s, but with USB 3.2 Gen 2×2, these drives can deliver up to 2000 MB/s sequential read and write.
If you did need something a little more potent, the P1000 can deliver 3700 MB//s and USB 4 connectivity, but the tradeoff is that the form factor is larger. This is just a teaser though, so the P900 is coming out now, but the P1000, HP wouldn’t let us open it up and look inside, so I suspect there is a new drive in there too, not just a new interface.
