HP Releases $5,000 Foldable Spectre Laptop

HP are one of the biggest names in computing and today they have revealed their latest product, the HP Spectre Foldable laptop which comes with a massive $5,000 price tag, lets see what justifies that cost.

HP Spectre Foldable

The primary feature of this new laptop is of course its foldability with a 3-in-1 design, it can be used as a standard laptop, a tablet or a hybrid of the two. It has a continuous 17-inch OLED screen with a foldable panel and integrated hinge allowing for a lot of screen versatility similar to that of Samsung’s foldables. This screen is also a touch screen and works well with the included Bluetooth pen which offers wireless charging.

Specs

Inside this laptop is nothing too spectacular with a 12th-generation i7 processor with Iris Xe graphics paired up with 16GB of RAM, a 1TB SSD and up to 12 hours of battery life. HP also advertises an advanced AI chip which I bet is a load of buzzword nonsense. This chip supposedly adapts to your needs to deliver a tailored computing experience with features such as walk away lock, wake-on approach, auto screen dimming and privacy alerts. On top of this it appears HP have gone the path of apple by removing all their I/O except for two Thunderbolt 4 USB Type-C ports which would help keep the device slimmer but it still looks pretty thick.

Price and Availability

So this laptop costs $4,999.99 which means you’re basically spending around 4K for the fancy screen as the actual specs are no more than $1,000. This doesn’t mean to say I think the display is bad as it genuinely looks very cool, but for 5 grand, yeah you can jog on.

The Spectre Foldable is available in the US now at Best Buy and HP’s online store and should be available in other parts of the world later on in Autumn/Fall.
