Recently, we learned that HP would be selling the computer making part of its business in a quite shocking move to the market. It was apparently in the best interests of shareholders and the board room. However, now it has become apparent that selling the PC branch of HP is no longer a possibility since a sale has not been made this could either be due to a lack of offers but it is speculated that it is because HP could not get the asking price they wanted.
An HP spokesperson told Reuters that the outfit would prefer a spin-off as a separate company and the working hypotheses is that a spin-off will be in the best interests of HP’s shareholders, customers and employees. She also said that HP is still investigating to see if that is true and the outfit still has to understand the dis-synergies in separating the PSG business from HP”.Apparently, the whole process could take 12 months to 18 months, but a final decision on the unit is expected by the end of this calendar year.
