HTC And Google Join Forces For Upcoming Nexus 6

As far as Android mobile handsets go, to me there is only one model series that should be taken in to consideration. This is of course the Nexus line. At the start of last year and after a lot of research and recommendations, I jumped onto the Android bandwagon and to be honest I don’t know why I didn’t do it beforehand. The sheer power that is at your fingertips is leaps and bounds ahead of many rival handsets that are part of the Android family, but also Windows and Apple.

The Nexus 5 is Google’s current flagship handset and like its older sibling – the Nexus 4, production was awarded to LG and this partnership has seen one of the biggest success stories that as been seen in the Android market in the last couple of years.

With the latest generation of the nexus family currently in development and many rumours about the specification circling around, word is now spreading that HTC are likely to be the lead partner in the Nexus 6’s production. If these latest rumours do transpire to be true then we are looking at some grass-roots heritage coming through as HTC themselves were the first brand to bring an Android phone to market.

With a speculated launch to be around the end of this year we are still a long way off seeing any confirmed specifications, but that is not to say that word is about. Upgrades to the processor, display, camera and operating system are all standard things to expect and like the current Nexus 5 we are expecting to see a minimum of a 5.2″ full HD display topped with the latest Corning Gorilla Glass creation – this latest generation of glass along with an improved body may even give the handset water and dust resistant properties. Under the surface a quad-core 800 series Snapdragon processor paired with around 2-3GB of RAM would kick the Nexus 6 into gear, an upgraded 16MP camera would boost the already great picture quality, whilst 16 or 32GB of storage would match the current specification of the N5.

With rumours being what they are we have also caught word from a couple of sources that there may be 64 or 128GB models forecast, although I think a 128GB is taking things a bit too far at this moment in time. We will get the usual array of connectivity options such as Bluetooth, NFC, Wi-Fi and 4G although it would be good to see full USB-OTG support to make an appearance as well.

Obviously the specifications are all an unknown entity at this moment in time and if you look at a wide number of sources, the specifications will vary quite considerably – and we don’t even have word on the pricing ladder either. All we can say is that if HTC are the official partners for the Nexus 6 then we may be seeing some inspiration come in from the One X+, giving the Nexus 6 and the new release of the Android OS – dubbed to be called Lollipop to edge it needs to take things to the next level.
