HTC has unveiled a new VIVE Pro 2 Lite Set that they’ve claimed to be a more affordable option for the VR headset kit.
The information surrounding this headset was shared on Guru3D which shows off the headset as a “cost-effective” VR kit which supports 5k/120Hz functionality. The headset kit comes with two base stations and offers a resolution of 2448×2448 per eye with a 90/120Hz refresh rate and a 120-degree field of view. There is also a plethora of various sensors including a G-sensor, gyroscope, proximity sensor, IPD sensor and SteamVR Tracking V2.0. The Vive Pro 2 Lite package comes with the Vive Pro 2 headset as well as two VIVE Base Station 1.0 units and two VIVE Controller 1.0 units.
So this new Lite headset has been designed to be cost-effective but unfortunately, that doesn’t actually mean affordable at least in my eyes. The headset kit comes in at an estimated price of $1129 which is just $270 cheaper than the normal Pro 2 at $1399. Whilst this headset is cheaper it’s far from affordable so I’m not quite sure what the aim is with this headset as the only difference is that this Lite option can only use 2 base stations as opposed to 4.
The Vive Pro 2 Lite does not yet have a product page on the HTC website however you can view their existing range of VR headsets.
