HTC is undoubtedly one of the bigger names in the mobile industry right now. However, user’s are experiencing issues with their devices thanks to a recent update. TouchPal is the native keyboard used on most HTC Mobile’s, including the HTC 10. The Keyboard recently had a new update and with it came with banner Adverts.
User’s of HTC devices recently received an update for the TouchPal Keyboard on their mobile phones. The update came with plenty of new features and adaptations to the existing keyboard. Of course, all in favour of making the experience better, smoother and faster to use. However, One added feature that users were not expecting to gain was Adverts. Adverts came up as a banner, right above the keyboard when in use. The adverts not only caused a major inconvenience but also raised alarms to the privacy concerns of HTC’s customers. Naturally, people would begin to question how the adverts were placed there and why.
Fortunately, although not directly confirmed as of yet. It seem’s that HTC were just as surprised and unaware of this feature as the customers were. No updates or comments have been made to date. However, we expect the update to be rolled back and rectified shortly. For now, though, user’s can turn off the advertising feature within the settings. Alternatively, they can simply opt to use one of the device’s other built in keyboards.
It goes to show that there could be an issue with outsourcing applications within large companies such as HTC. More often than not, most companies will rely on other dev’s or application managers to control the features within their devices and any updates. This provides critical insight as to the dangers of outsourcing software. With any luck, the issue with the advertising banners will be rectified pretty swiftly and users can go back to using the TouchPal keyboard without any pop ups.
