Mobile World Congress 2018 is currently going on in Barcelona. However, it is not just smartphones being announced there. Some companies are also unveiling their new notebook and tablet products. Huawei for example has launched their latest MateBook X Pro notebook.
It measures 304 x 217 x 14.6mm, weighs 1.34kgs and is only 14.6mm thin. Just from the name alone, one could surmise that that this is aiming for the Apple MacBook Pro. Delving deeper into the specs reveals that Huawei is offering much more.
The 13.9 inch screen in particular boasts a full view 3K display with a 91 percent screen-to-body ratio and 3:2 aspect ratio. That is a 3000×2000 resolution, with 100% sRGB color gamut, 450 nits brightness and 1500:1 contrast ratio. It has one of the thinnest bezels (4.4mm) in the market and it even has touch-screen features.
Because of this, Huawei hid the camera on the notebook’s body. This camera pops up when needed, located in between the F6 and F7 keys. This may sound like bad news for those who like taking selfies, but it is great news for those who prefer privacy. The chiclet style keyboard it sits on is also spill-proof.
It is powered by Intel’s 8th generation Core i7 8550U processor and uses NVIDIA’s GeForce MX150 GPU with 2GB of GDDR5/Intel UHD Graphics 620. Users can choose between 8GB or 16GB LPDDR3 2133 MHz RAM configurations with a 256GB or 512GB NVMe SSD storage option. The 57.4Wh battery inside supposedly is able to deliver 12 hours of video playback or 15 hours of web browsing.
In terms of connectivity, there are two USB Type-C ports, one of which supports Thunderbolt 3, as well as a USB 3.0 Type-A port. The laptop is also loaded with quad Dolby Atmos speakers for excellent audio.
Editor’s Note: The article has been updated with the correct GPU specs.
The Matebook X Pro starts at a price of EUR 1499 and goes up to EUR 1899.
