Huawei and Volkswagen Partner up to Bring Connectivity to Cars

During the International Consumer Electronics Show that took place in Shanghai, Volkswagen and Huawei had something very interesting to share as far as car connectivity is concerned. The Chinese smartphone manufacturer and the renowned German automaker presented a collection of apps that will enable Huawei smartphone owners to pair up their devices to a series of infotainment systems installed in certain Volkswagen cars. Dubbed MirrorLink, the technology aims to provide instant up-to-date information regarding phone calls, music, text messages and navigation directly to the car’s screen.

Even though the tech is rapidly gaining popularity in other countries, it has not yet been implemented in the United States. Speaking of the States, Google also expressed some interest in collaborating with Volkswagen, while Android Auto has already begun its roll-out. At the time of writing, the only cars that benefit from Huawei’s MirrorLink are the Volkswagen Golf 7 and the Lamando models, both of which can be produced locally in China.

It looks like Huawei’s system won’t gain much traction in the US because of the competition, but even so, I’m sure that it will be quite appreciated in other parts of the world.
