Hydradeck, A Cover Shooter For Razer Hydra & Oculus Rift
Peter Donnell / 11 years ago
Ever since the Oculus Rift was brought to my attention I’ve done nothing but explain to my girlfriend how I need one of these in my life, I don’t care if it’s for Christmas or if I have to sell the shirt off my back, as soon as this device hits retail (yes, I know you can buy dev kit hardware) then I will be all over it. Until then, I have to suffer demonstrations such as the one in the video below which only goes to reaffirm my desire to own the Oculus Rift, but now it seems my issues are larger, I need to start saving for the Razer Hydra also!
Combining the incredibly accurate motion controls of the Hydra with the 3D virtual headset that is the Oculus allows for a proper cover based shooter. Being able to duck behind walls and blind fire, shoot around corners, and lean over objects looks like a lot of fun and while this isn’t a truly refined title it does show a lot of promise for both devices.

I used to love the Time Crisis gun games and this technology could bring the virtual arcade shooter into the world once again, yet this game has fooled a few people and due to the nature of Oculus and how it fools your senses players have already found them selves trying to lean on the virtual boxes in front of them, so the risk of faceplanting is a very real one indeed.
