I wholeheartedly believe that the original Xbox 360 controller is one of the best designs ever created. – It has a nice ergonomic feel, it’s reassuringly weighty, it’s incredibly durable, and best of all with a simple adaptor, you can use it wirelessly on your PC even today (or wired if you prefer). – Sure, I’ve tried other ones. Significantly newer and theoretically ‘better’ ones, in fact. Ultimately though, I always end up coming back to my Xbox 360 controller.
With that being said, however, given that the Xbox 360 recently hit its 17th birthday, finding good-quality original controllers (wired or wireless) is becoming an increasingly difficult task. – Following a Twitter post by peripheral manufacturer Hyperkin, however, it seems that we’re set to get a brand new (old) option as they’ve confirmed the upcoming release of a newly updated version of the iconic Xbox 360 controller!
Now, at this point, you may have some kind of vague recollection of ‘Hyberkin’ and that’s probably due to the fact that they previously released an updated version of the original Xbox ‘Duke’ controller which you can buy now. As part of their latest release, however, it seems that those of you (like me) who love the original Xbox 360 design will have a brand new option to choose from.
Yes, admittedly, the one key downside is that this is (apparently) only going to be released in a ‘wired’ design. With it offering compatibility for both PC and the Xbox Series X/S, however, I have to admit that pending seeing how much this will cost, this announcement has definitely piqued my interest.
