HyperX Cloud Stinger Multi-Format Gaming Headset Review

Final Thoughts

Price

The HyperX Stinger Gaming Headset comes in at the very wallet friendly MSRP of £49.99, although you can find it a little cheaper if you shop around. Given it offers multi-format support, while also being around £40 cheaper than the HyperX Cloud Revolver Pro headset, which offers similar features, it’s an absolute bargain!

Overview

When I hear the words “budget friendly multi-format headset” I think “uh-oh, something has to be compromised to tick all the boxes” and while it’s certainly true that build quality or acoustic performance suffer while trying to tick so many boxes on a budget, that’s certainly not the case here. The HyperX Stinger manages to deliver impressive performance no matter what you throw at it, and while some gaming headsets only excel in games, the Stinger is great for watching a movie or listening to your favourite albums, and it’ll leave you with a smile on your face while doing so.

The build quality is robust, especially for the sub £50 price bracket. Sure it does use a lot of plastic on the exterior, but they’re durable moulds and very nicely finished overall. Of course, we’ve got the added benefit of a durable metal support through the headband, giving the headset increased durability. If there’s one change I could make here, it would be to have a detachable cable on the headset, it’s hardly a deal breaker, but a broken detachable cable can easily be replaced, a hard-wired one would need the whole headset replacing.

In terms of features, the Stinger isn’t exactly loaded with extras, but it does have more than enough to satisfy the majority of users. The built-in microphone works great, and the fold-away to mute function is nice and easy to use. There’s no in-line controller on the cable, but with the mute switch built into the microphone, as well as the volume slider on the bottom of the headset, you don’t really need one. The best feature, however, is the multi-format support. Being able to plug the headset into just about anything with an audio jack is a huge bonus, as it means you only need one headset for all your gaming systems.

Pros

  • Good build quality
  • Powerful and clear sound
  • Great for all multimedia
  • Multi-format support

“The HyperX Stinger is not only comfortable, powerful and durable, it’s also incredibly kind to your wallet. For those looking for a versatile gaming headset for all major gaming systems, mobile and PC, look no further!”
