Performance

So now that we’ve taken a quick look at what all the various knobs and dials do, it’s time to put them to the test. What I should point out is that I took these photos first, about 10 days ago if I recall correctly and I’ve since used them all together for a week. It’s been an interesting week too, I’ve written a bunch of reviews, and as I said before, I’ve played a hell of a lot of Elder Scrolls Online. The HyperX setup has been an absolute joy to use throughout. The build quality and features on offer tick all the right boxes for me both professionally and as an MMORPG gamer.

The keyboard looks utterly stunning with plenty of vivid RGB effects that really add some vibrancy to your desktop. Of course, my kids would leave it on an RGB strobe light effect all day long just fine. For me, I dim the light a little, red it to a deep red or purple, and leave it alone. I may use the software to set the F-keys to white or something for a two-tone look. Of course, that’s the joy of RGB, you can make it your own and don’t always have to rely on the built-in profiles.

The mouse is packing some RGB too, with lights in the wheel and the logo. It’s all run through the same software though, so you can sync the keyboard lights too.

What really stands out for me though, is just how flexible this mouse is. I’m very picky about my own gaming mouse. I’ve used Roccat Tyon for a long time as it has a LOT of buttons that I can’t live without. The Pulse does have fewer buttons, but it has enough to keep my most vital macros and shortcuts within reach. I keep a copy/paste/enter setup on the left side for work and editing. However, for Elder Scrolls Online adding a quicker mount, and a few emotes or phrases for chat is really handy, especially with the amount of PVP and trading I’ve started doing.

The rest of the mouse feels tight and responsive too. There’s an excellent range of tracking and it never missed a beat. I game a lot and I do a lot of work in editing software too, so comfort is seriously important.

Thankfully it was comfortable, although for my large hands, I would have liked it just a little bigger, but that’s just me.

The keyboard is fully mechanical and deploys their own custom HyperX mechanical switches. They’re fantastic switches too, I’ve used them a few times now and really can’t fault them. Cherry has lost their grip on the keyboard market, demand was high, prices were high, so everyone just made their own switches now and a lot of them, such as the HyperX, as every bit as good in my opinion.

Fitting the switches into the aluminium body means they feel very sturdy. There’s no flex like there is in a plastic shell and less vibration through the keyboard. This gives every switch a more positive and responsive feel to me.

It’s a very fast keyboard to type on and for a mechanical, it’s surprisingly quiet too. Perfect for work and gaming, exactly as it should be really.

The headset is pretty epic too, those 50mm drivers really pack a punch. Big drivers can do big bass, that’s something we all know. However, the soft leather material on the earcup padding creates a pretty tight seal, and that further locks in the sound and helps tighten up the bass. Finally, they’re closed-back, as in there’s nothing letting the driver breathe at the back, which again, helps ramp up the bass. It also means they’re noise isolation is pretty great too, locking sound in and out so you can enjoy your media in peace.

The microphone, it’s better than I expected actually and the ANC is pretty effective at removing the noise of my office fan. It’s been a hot week in the office, and lots of Discord chatter, so being able to be heard loud and clear is always welcome.

Of course, the wireless functionality is superb too. No cables to tangle up with while I’m gaming is always a welcome bonus. Especially so with the kids at home all the time right now, I’m up and down from my desk every five minutes fetching juice or looking for a teddy, so no cables is a huge help. Of course, I don’t even need wires to charge the headset. Just drop it on the pad and it’ll take care of that its self; awesome!

Of course, it’ll charge my Samsung S20+ too, as that has Fast Wireless Charging. From the mains it’ll charge fully in 2 hours, it’s about 2 hours 40mins on the Qi pad, which I think is great. My phone battery is always fairly low as I put it on to charge, it rings, then I end up leaving it on my desk. Now I can have it charging every time I put it down. This is a huge time saver. HyperX, you listening? Send two more of these, need to erm, test if it works on the bedside table and kids room… This one isn’t leaving my desk!

Overall, this is one of the best group tests I’ve done yet. I wouldn’t change a thing about it.
